Our Story
The Barn at Beal is the vision of Northumbrian farmer Rod Smith, who in partnership with his father farms at Beal Farm. The farm is situated on the main road from the A1 leading to the causeway to Holy Island.
It has always been Rod's long term aim to provide a centre which would educate the visitor in the role that agriculture has played on the shape of our landscape and the positive contribution the industry he works in has made to the countryside, its economy and ecology, by careful management processes.
One of the topics of interest covered within The Barn at Beal will be how our food reaches our tables. In recent years, awareness of food miles and regional food initiatives have highlighted the need for education and clarity within this area, and it is hoped that The Barn at Beal can provide a practical (and engaging) focus of just such educational initiatives.
The land surrounding the farm falls entirely within the North Northumberland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and has areas of archeological interest which visitors will be able & encouraged to explore.
